Battle to stop the flow of halfway and boarding housing in southeast Houston

- The battle is on to stop the flow of halfway and boarding housing in southeast Houston.

State Representative Borris Miles says while state records show there are 43 transitional facilities in his district, which include Sunny Side and 3rd Ward, there are dozens more off the books.

Miles says his district has become the dumping ground of the state where 3,200 parolees were released in 2015.

The lawmaker says some of those who are released from the prison sometimes re-offend making life difficult for residents in the area.

Miles says, "What we have is an abundance of real estat people are purchasing, and putting multiple beds in per room, and receiving rental income from inmates who are trying to transition into free form of life."

Miles says he will propose legislation that will require a master list showing who is staying in halfway or transitional homes in his community.
