- The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting in response to North Korea’s claim it has conducted a successful test of a hydrogen bomb. The announcement was made on North Korean state TV. After a 5.1 magnitude earthquake was detected near its known nuclear test site earlier today. The president of neighboring South Korea is ordering its military to bolster its combined defense posture with u-s forces.

The mom of the infamous "affluenza teen" will soon be back in Texas. In a California courtroom yesterday, Tonya couch agreed not to fight extradition.

            She is charged with a felony here in Texas - hindering the apprehension of a felon. The Tarrant county sheriff says she helped her son Ethan escape to Mexico late last year. He was -as you probably know - on probation for a d-w-i crash that killed four people. His attorney at the time came up with the term "affluenza" - saying couch was too spoiled to know what he did was wrong. As for Ethan, he's still in custody in Mexico City. His lawyer visited him at the "immigration detention center" yesterday.   Fernando Benitez would not say if couch plans to continue fighting deportation back to the u-s.

            If he does, it could be months before he comes back to Texas to face his new charge.

 

A marine is under arrest for the New Year’s Eve shooting death of a "universtiy of north Texas" student.

            U.S Marshals arrested 20-year-old Eric Jamal Johnson yesterday in Yuma, Arizona.

            He’s accused of killing 20-year-old Sara Mutschlechner as she was driving friend’s home from a New Year’s Eve party. Reports say passengers in Mutschlechner's car began exchanging words with people in a SUV leading to gun fire and she was shot in the head.
