BRENHAM, Texas (FOX 26)
Blue Bell Creameries has resumed production at the company's facility in Brenham, Texas.
"We are excited to announce that Blue Bell Ice Cream is once again being made at our main production plant in Brenham," said Greg Bridges, vice president of operations for Blue Bell. "Over the past several months we have been preparing our facility for this day. We are very thankful for the patience and support our customers have shown Blue Bell."
While operations are currently on a limited basis, the company will work to confirm that new procedures, facility enhancements and employee training methods are effective. Ice cream produced at the Brenham facility will be closely monitored and tested, according to a statement released by Blue Bell Creameries. There is no firm date for when ice cream from the Brenham facility will be available for sale.
"I'm excited about being able to get back down on the production floor," said 34-year employee David Hutchinson.
Blue Bell Creameries is in the second phase of its return plan and is scheduled to enter the third phase on Dec. 14. Almost 700 of its employees, who were placed on paid furlough earlier this year, have returned to work.
Blue Bell began production at its Sylacauga, Ala. facility in July and the Broken Arrow, Okla. facility in September.
"We anticipate that our new procedures and enhancements that have already been implemented in Alabama and Oklahoma will also be effective in Texas," said Bridges. "For now we will produce a limited number of products at each facility."
Tours will not resume at the Brenham facility, but the Country Store, Visitor Center and ice cream parlor remain open to the public.
