4-year-old girl and man killed in shooting at SW Houston apartment complex

A 4-year-old girl is one of two people shot to death in southwest Houston Sunday night.  Her mother and another person were also shot but survived.  The gunshots rang out in a southwest Houston apartment complex as the four people simply sat outside.

Ashley Perdomo, 4, was in the apartment breezeway with her mom and several others Sunday night when someone opened fire on the group shooting four people, killing the little girl and another man. It was nearly 11 p.m. so most residents were home.  They say they couldn't believe the terror that was occurring just outside their front door.

It started as neighbors gathered outside on a Sunday evening enjoying the night air but by midnight the atrium at the Westward Square Apartments on Gulfton was crawling with Houston police homicide investigators trying to figure out why four people were shot and a 4-year-old little girl was murdered.

“I'm still scared and I'm shaking,” said one neighbor.  The apartment residents were just as friendly as they were frightened and they did not want their faces shown after little Ashley Perdomo and 31-year-old Miguel Marquez were shot and killed.  Ashley's mom and one other person were also shot and survived.

“I’m honestly scared because I have never experienced this.  I'm scared because they are out there and you don't know what they can do,” said one resident.

One woman told us she's scared for herself and her children.  She says Ashley was a sweet girl and she says she doesn't know what kind of person would shoot a 4-year-old child in the head.

Witnesses say even as Ashley's mom was also shot she was carrying her daughter and begging for help.  “She was in shock but she was also walking fast and saying help me.”

Houston Police detectives are searching for two suspects. Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
