Woman Thanks Firefighters Who Saved Her Life

- Kayla Jenkins brought cookies on Thursday to the Henry County firefighters who saved her life.

The 20-year-old woman lost control of her car on October 27th, and ended up trapped and upside down in Swan Lake.

She managed to get out of her seatbelt and waited for firefighters to arrive. She called them a blessing and said she knows she was given a second chance at life.

Firefighters with station 11 in Stockbridge told FOX 5 it was a time-sensitive rescue. Firefighters said one citizen had tried to pry open the door with a crow bar. That set up the firefighters to use their spreader bars. But there were big fears opening up the car would let more rushing water in and possibly drown her.

Firefighters said Jenkins used the light from her cell phone after she managed to get out of her seat belt, allowing firefighters to get to her safely and quickly.

Jenkins was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where she was treated for water in her lungs, but suffered no serious injuries.
