AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Firefighters may get some help from Mother Nature this weekend as they try to contain a Texas wildfire that consumed more than 7 miles of forest. Favorable weather is expected this weekend to try to further control the Bastrop County fire. About 200 firefighters from across the state have been battling it, and a jet tanker dropped nearly 12,000 gallons of retardant on the smoldering area.
LANCASTER, Texas (AP) — Two people aboard a small airplane have survived after it clipped a power line in Lancaster. A grass fire began when the single-engine aircraft struck the power line, about two miles south of the regional airport. The passenger was injured and taken to a hospital.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The founder of a nonprofit that mentors at-risk boys is accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old who participated in the program. Fort Worth police say 33-year-old Paul Jamison Jr., the head of the youth group Developing Boys to Men, has been arrested on charges of online solicitation of a minor. Police say there may be other victims.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Police in Akron, Ohio, say alcohol may have been involved in a domestic dispute between Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel and his girlfriend. Manziel was pulled over after a witness said a person was trying to jump from the quarterback's speeding vehicle. Manziel admitted drinking before the incident, but police didn't charge him.
