Former Ben Taub doctor accused of sexually assaulting patient

- A doctor who worked at Ben Taub is being accused of sexually assaulting a patient while she was heavily sedated.

Dr. Shafeeq Sheikh is being accused of sexually assaulting a then 27-year old woman.

The incident in question happened two years ago, but the charges against the doctor were just filed yesterday.

According to court documents, the woman was admitted to Ben Taub hospital on November 2, 2013.

While she was there, she stated that a doctor entered her room in the middle of the night on three separate occasions and sexually assaulted her while she was in a weakened state.

The alleged victim says she tried to get help but couldn't because the nurse's call button had been unplugged.

A rape kit test found male DNA and through surveillance video and hospital time cards, Dr. Shiekh was identified as having used his hospital ID during the overnight hours to enter the area near the victim's room.

The reason it took so long to charge the doctor is because the results from the test comparing  the male DNA from the rape kit to the doctor's DNA just came out Tuesday.

Now the DNA test could not rule out the doctor as a possible suspect. He has since posted his $30,000 bond.

Harris Health system released this statement:
The safety and well-being of our patients is our highest priority.
We have fully cooperated with law enforcement in their investigation of the allegations against Dr. Sheikh, who is not an employee of Harris Health System.
