3 felony charges for former Galveston teacher

The Galveston Independent School District released the following statement on Friday afternoon:

On August 28, 2015 a complaint was received by GISD Administration that involved a GISD Employee and a student. The administration acted on the complaint immediately and the employee was placed on administrative leave. Due to the serious nature of the complaint, it was turned over to the GISD Police Department. A criminal investigation was initiated by the GISD Police Department and the complaint was substantiated. All facts of the investigation were presented to the Galveston County District Attorney’s office and three felony charges were accepted against the now former employee, Larry Richard Durand, which included one count of Indecency with a Child by Contact, 2nd Degree Felony; Indecency with a Child by Exposure, 3rd Degree Felony and Improper Relationship Between Educator & Student, 2nd Degree Felony.

Felony warrants were immediately issued and on September 10, 2015, Larry Richard Durand was
arrested at his residence without incident by GISD Police officers, transported to Galveston County Jail
and incarcerated.
