CAIR Houston reports rise in anti-Muslim incidents in 2017

- A new report shows there's a huge spike in the number of Muslim Americans who are targeted for hate and Houston is no exception.

In Houston and around Texas we've had Muslim businesses targeted and mosques set on fire. It's part of a national trend the council on American-Islamic relations says is growing around the country.

A report by CAIR shows hate crimes in the first half of 2017 against Muslims spiked by 91 percent compared to the same time in 2016. The number of bias incidents in the first half of this year also increased by 24 percent compared to 2016. Mustapha Carroll heads CAIR in Houston and points the finger at the current president— Donald Trump.

He says, "When they feel the leader of the free world is part of their group...seems to empower those folks."

Carroll says if Muslims are targeted they should contact their local CAIR office or police when appropriate.
