Train car fire near downtown Houston

- Houston Fire Department is investigating the cause of a Union Pacific train car fire Sunday evening.

A train car caught fire at the corner of Chapman and Conti. No injuries were reported and no shelter-in-place order was issued.

The call came in around 6 P.M. that a Union Pacific train was on fire. It's not known what the train was carrying but witnesses say there was a chemical like smell in the air. A hazmat crew and emergency environmental response team responded, but they found no harmful chemicals. Tashi Garcia lives directly across the street."I thought some kind of bomb went off."  He told us when he outside of the home putting things away. He was thrown into the threshold of the home during the blast. "I had no clue what was going on for like 2-3 minutes, I was disoriented." The blast was so powerful the home sustained some broken windows and cracks on the outside walls and porch.

 Fire officials are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
