FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas (FOX 26) - Fort Bend County sheriff’s deputies say 22-year-old Brandi Cano and her 24-year-old boyfriend had been together for about six years and have a 3-year-old son.
He's now with relatives while the investigation into his mother's murder continues.
Cano and her longtime boyfriend were living in a garage apartment on her grandmother's property in the Village of Pleak in Fort Bend County.
The grandmother called 911 to report Cano was bleeding from the head.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they say they discovered this was a homicide and took the boyfriend into custody.
"I asked and all I could get from him in his statement is there was an argument," said Fort Bend County detective David Williams. "They were arguing. He had picked up a gun, telling me he was just trying to leave the house, that she was trying to stop him and the gun went off."
"She was a nice, sweet young lady. She would do anything for anybody. She loved her baby and her family so much," said family friend Wendy Silva.
Relatives say they will have a hard time financially with Cano's funeral and are hoping for donations.
Murder charges are pending against her boyfriend.
