HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Houston homicide teams are working to crack the case of a teenage girl found shot dead in the street in Southwest Houston on Thursday morning.
Police say they received a call around 7 a.m. Thursday from a man taking his children to school, saying he'd discovered a woman's body on Sharpscrest Street off Highway 8.
When police arrived, they say the woman was dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police describe the victim as a female of Latina descent. They believe she was in her mid or late teens. Police say she was fully clothed but not wearing a jacket despite the cool overnight weather.
One clue police are following is another call they received just a few hours prior this morning.
"Around 5:15 or 5:30 this morning we had a witness who said she heard a series of gunshots at that time when she was taking her dog out to do his business," said Homicide detective Fil Waters of the Houston Police Department.
Police are still working to identify the victim, saying they do not know whether she lived in one of the several apartment complexes in the area or was brought and dumped at the location.
As of Thursday evening, police had not confirmed whether any suspects had been taken into custody. Anyone who saw or heard anything is encouraged to call police.
