LEAGUE CITY, Texas (FOX 26) - The search is on for a missing woman, the mother of two children. Texas EquuSearch volunteers are fanning out in a League City field searching for 30-year-old Anne Christine Johnson. They chose the area to conduct because Johnson was last seen at her ex-husband’s home nearby. Johnson was supposed to meet with her family for dinner and never arrived.
"I’ve been slowly sinking into hell since then,” says Stephanie Johnson, Anne's mother. It was on Thursday, Dec. 8 when Stephanie's daughter disappeared. League City police say Johnson left her ex-husband’s home, allegedly getting into a vehicle with another man.
"The last thing that we were told was that she got into a white sedan with an unknown white male and that’s the last physical contact anyone had with her,” says League City Police Department Detective Austin Frakes.
"I’m slowly dying inside to be quite honest and crying and not sleeping and not eating,” adds Stephanie. She initiated a Go Fund Me page in June in which she posted a photo of her daughter, bruised and battered, saying she needed help with attorneys' fees and claiming Anne had been beaten, strangled and threatened by her ex-husband with a gun. A police report from June 2015 confirms something happened between them. The summary on the report reads “former spouses assaulted each other.” The result of the investigation cannot be disclosed because another agency is still looking into the matter, FOX 26 News has learned.
Anne and her ex-husband have a 5-year-old autistic child together "and requires all kind of extra care, so she would never disappear like this,” explains Stephanie. Even as Texas EquuSearch continues searching for her daughter, Stephanie says with fear and grief, "She’s dead. Obviously, EquuSearch would not be on the ground. We want to rule everything out as quickly as possible in case she is alive or needs help.”
"We are following all the leads we have," adds Detective Frakes. "The main thing is we are concerned about her and we are looking for her.”
Anne's oldest child lives out of the area with his father. She works at Legends Sports Bar & Lounge in southeast Houston and hasn’t been to work since last week. Texas EquuSearch volunteers will continue the search for Anne until dusk.
