HOUSTON, TX - Disturbing new details about the death of a San Antonio police officer, Detective Benjamin Marconi. The suspect told police he was angry about a child custody battle. He said "I lashed out at somebody who didn't deserve it." The 31-year-old Otis Tyrone McCain told reporters he was angry with the court system for not letting him see his son. He said he took it out on the detective, Benjamin Marconi.
McCain also said he wished to apologize to the family of the slain officer. He was arrested yesterday on a capital murder charge. The 50-year-old detective was ambushed Sunday while writing a traffic ticket in his squad car. The shooting is one of a string of similar attacks targeting law enforcement in several cities across the country. This includes a sergeant shot twice in his patrol car in St. Louis.
UPDATE: The accused shooter reportedly married a Houston woman right after the deadly attack and his subsequent arrest.
