HOUSTON, TX - Thousands of Houston parents are hoping to get their kids into the charter school lottery. This includes entry into the coveted Kipp Academy schools. Parents are not guaranteed a slot. According to one parent, it's a tough process to get through. Some parents had to wait a year, before their kids were actually able to enroll in their school.
One Kipp school official said, “Today is a great day in that we opened up our lottery process and it will be open 2 ½ months. Parents must submit information at the school or on their website to enroll their kids for the school year." She also reiterated that the demand far outweighs the number of number of seats available. "Unfortunately, 15,000 will submit interest forms, and we'll only have seats for 2500." But many parents agree the charter school experience is worth. "The value of an education is immeasurable."
