HITCHCOCK, Texas (FOX 26) - One person has died following a plane crash in Galveston County near Hitchcock, the Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed. Troopers, along with Hitchcock police and Galveston County deputies, began the search for the twin-engine Beechcraft plane after someone on the plane contacted 911 before 7 p.m. Tuesday and told dispatchers that he was in a rice field and in need of help.
Two people were aboard the plane when it went down near Halls Bayou Ranch between FM 2004 and FM 646. One person was extricated from the wreckage and taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center. The identity of the person killed in the accident has not been identified. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.
Texas DPS later identified the person killed as 69-year-old Brian Arnott.
