Leaders mentoring younger Muslims away from extremism

- Muslim leaders at a mosque in the River Oaks district say that they play a key role in making sure young members of their clergy are not lured by terrorist ideology organizations like ISIS and Al-Qaeda use for recruitment.

Leaders at the Islamic Society of Greater Houston say they have launched an aggressive mentoring program aimed at teaching young Muslims about the true teachings of Islam and confronting terrorist rhetoric head-on.

"If we lose one person to extremism, then we lost one person too many," says former Houston City Council member M.J. Khan.

"Terrorists have to succeed only once, we have to succeed every time, so our challenge is a daily challenge to make sure our community members, especially the young people understand the teachings of Islam.”

Khan says his mosques are open to all members of the Houston community and they are welcome to attend Friday prayers to learn more about the mentoring program.
