Woman charged with crashing into DPS Trooper appears in court

A state trooper is recovering from serious injuries after a suspected drunk driver crashes into his car.

Monday night the woman accused of running into trooper Chad Blackburn made her first appearance in court.

31-year-old Tuwanna Moore from League City is charged with intoxication assault.

Officials say her blood alcohol level was .29 at the time of the crash. That's more that three times the legal limit.

Moore's bond was set at $100,000.

At last check, Trooper Chad Blackburn is still at Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

And  his colleagues, state troopers, are at the hospital showing their support.

The accident happened around 2:15 a.m. Monday.

DPS officials say Trooper Blackburn was sitting in his car on the right shoulder of the Gulf freeway near NASA Road one.

That was when Moore, driving in a red Mercedes Benz,  is accused of slamming her car toward the rear passenger area.

Her car  rolled over and and came to a stop on its roof.

The accident was serious enough that officials say Trooper Blackburn had to be cut out of his vehicle.

Officials say speed was  a factor in his accident.

Those who know Trooper Blackburn say he is selfless and always puts the safety of others first.

"He's the kind of person that would say if it was going to happen to anyone, I'm glad it's me. Because he's prepared for that sort of thing by his attitude in life the way he carries himself," says  Ricky Sauceda, a friend of Blackburn.

"I just hope everything's OK, that he comes out and is good as new and that I hope they're doing well and maybe if I see his son at school I'll wish them good," says neighbor Annalee Elterisy.

Friends who knew the trooper say he was married with two children.
