An ongoing feud ended with one man dead and the gunman severely injured after a shooting at a Kaufman Walmart.

The shooting happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday at the store on Kings Fort Parkway. The suspect, Donald Coleman, 55, walked into the outdoor living department and fatally shot employee John Morgan, 59, police said.

Originally FOX 4 reported that Coleman committed suicide. Police confirmed he shot himself, but later clarified that he had not yet been pronounced dead. He was rushed to a local hospital by helicopter.

Police said the victim and the suspect knew each other and had an ongoing feud and were investigating the case as an attempted murder-suicide.

“There has been a past history with these subjects,” said Cpt. Ed Black, Kaufman Police. “There's been some sort of altercation. It did not take place in Kaufman so it's taking us a little time to figure out what went on in that situation.”

No one else was hurt, but the store was shut down for part of the day.

Employees who witnessed the surprise attack were visibly shaken up. Walmart issued a statement saying, "We're deeply saddened by the tragic situation that occurred in our store today.  We're assisting law enforcement however we can and our thoughts are with the families and our associates at this time."

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department is helping with the investigation.
