HOUSTON (FOX 26) - One-by-one, investigators with the Precinct 4 Constable's Office posted mug shots of accused "Johns" -- men who pay for sex.
Among them is 46-year-old Tony Sellers who’s a Houston Police Department veteran of twenty years assigned to Northeast Patrol. He’s now relieved of duty as HPD investigates.
“This is not a behavior or crime that's going to be allowed in precinct four,” said Constable Mark Herman.
Over two days this week, the undercover operation performed along the FM 1960 corridor from Willowbrook Mall to Aldine Westfield, landed 18 men in jail for soliciting prostitutes who were actually undercover officers.
One alleged female prostitute was also arrested.
“This operation was conducted because of the outcry we received from our community and our business owners," he said.
Arrests were made near schools and daycares. Constable Herman calls it the biggest bust they've made “in a while.”
“The deputy constable's would make an arrest and I mean five minutes later they have another individual hitting on the undercover female officer and soliciting acts," said Constable Herman.
Law enforcement hopes by taking "sex buyers" off the streets, it will cripple the sex industry and curb human trafficking.
“These folks who want to come out here and solicit you might want to think twice because it could be an undercover officer and we will arrest you and we will put you in jail," he said.
