HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The 16-year old boy was walking home from school police say when he was shot four times by someone driving by in a white Ford pickup truck.
It happened around 5 o'clock Friday afternoon in the 6200 block of Beverly Hill.
Police say the boy, whose name has not been released, was shot twice in the arm and twice in the back.
He was found bleeding in a ditch in front of a townhouse complex. He was rushed to Southwest Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police are trying to determine if the shooting was gang related.
"I can't tell yet if he was targeted," said homicide detective Christopher Elder. "We've heard rumors of escalating gang violence with two particular gangs but as of right now we don't have anything indicating that."
Police believe the boy was a 10th grader from Lee High School, and say they do not believe he was a gang member.
The vehicle involved is described as a newer model white Ford pickup truck with a license plate with a D or O.
Four Hispanic males were inside that truck.
