Residents: Anti-transgender fliers left by KKK

- People living in a Lithia Springs subdivision woke up to find fliers in their driveways. The fliers offer a hateful message toward transgender people and have contacts to a Ku Klux Klan chapter.

Residents found a small piece of paper inside a plastic bag with the word “Transgender” across the top. It called transgender people “freaks” and said the bathroom issue is "jeopardizing the safety of bathrooms all across the nation for our women and children.”

Tenisha Bell was angry when she read the flier. “This organization continues to spew hate and racism. They're going after the transgender group now, God bless us all," said Bell.

Shaundra Washington also got a flier in her yard. She said if the KKK is really behind this, the group is just trying to latch on to the latest “hot button” issue to recruit people. “They're using the transgender issue to gain people and manipulate people and get them on their side, whatever their side is,” said Washington.

Some of those who got fliers brought their concerns to a homeowners meeting Tuesday night. They wanted to make sure everyone was aware of what happened. “This should not be tolerated in 2016 in any community anywhere in America in any subdivision,” said Bell.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said they did receive a complaint about the fliers. They said they will look into it, although they said there is not a lot they can do because there was no crime committed.
