Snapchat under fire for filters 'whitewashing' users' skin

- Snapchat users are taking to social media about new filters gaining popularity, and drastically altering their natural appearance, according to Buzzfeed News

The app's popular 'Coachella', or flower crown, filter has faced the most criticism--being accused by users for making their skin appear "whiter", while also making other features appear rounder, and thinner.

Other users on Twitter are coming to Snapchat's defense when it comes to the complaints.

Users are mostly taking issue with Snapchat's "pretty" filters, which they say, smooths blemishes and under-eye circles, while also making skin look lighter in tone.

Snapchat recently faced backlash for its Bob Marley filter, that featured dreadlocks, as users called it 'digital blackface'.
