14-year-old shot in Greenspoint remembered with memorial service

A celebration of life service was held for 14-year-old boy who was shot dead in Greenspoint earlier this month.

Houstonians held a high energy service celebrating O'Cyrus Breaux's life at the Green House International Church, hosted by pastor EA Deckard.

O'Cyrus's father, Bill Jackson, says he has been amazed at how Houstonians have supported him through his loss. Jackson lives in Louisiana and plans to bury his son there.

O'Cyrus Breaux was killed on July 17th. Police arrived to find him shot in the stomach on Goodson Drive, and he later passed away at a Woodlands hospital.

Justice may be on the way in this case. Days after O'Cyrus' death, his mother Ellen Breaux and 17-year-old brother Messiah were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon for a carjacking. Prosecutors say during that investigation, Messiah told officers he was the one who shoot his brother.

No charges have been filed.

Meanwhile, O'Cyrus won't soon be forgotten. Pastor Deckard recounted numerous stories told to him about the boy's character; he says O'Cyrus was had a tendency to resolve disputes and diffuse situations.

Deckard says he feels cases like this are becoming too common in Houston. He feels community members are becoming numb to the violence, but won't let that discourage him from continuing his work supporting families who are impacted by violence in Houston.
