STAFFORD, Texas (FOX 26) - Stafford Municipal School District will be closed on Friday, May 6 to honor coach Michael Mesa, who died suddenly while playing paintball on April 29.
Stafford Municipal School District Superintendent Dr. Robert Bostic released the following statement on Wednesday:
With respect to students, athletes, colleagues, friends and most importantly, the Mesa Family, we have decided to close the district on Friday, May 6, 2016. We want to allow the community the opportunity to mourn and celebrate the life of Coach Mesa, without obstacle. This decision was made in full compliance with the Texas Education Agency and the Board of Trustees whom we thank for their empathy and understanding. We are grateful that the entire SMSD Community has pulled together and shown strength and resolve in the wake of this tragedy.
