HARRIS COUNTY (FOX 26) - The body of 23-year-old Ariel Tapscott has been recovered after HCSO Marine and Aviation units discovered her car in a retention pond in the 19600 block of Stone Lake drive during an extensive search.
Ariel had last been seen on April 24, 2016 near FM 2920 and Cypress Roseshill in north Harris County.
According to her family, Ariel dropped off a family member at a cafe, and was driving home.
Her family says Ariel later texted someone saying that her car was filling up with water, which lead investigators to believe that Ariel might have accidently driven her vehicle into an unknown water-filled area.
Investigators now believe she drove on to a private road, and followed it until standing flood waters forced her to turn around.
She then backed up her Honda Accord in order to turn around, and drove backwards into the retention pond.
An HCSO helicopter discovered tire tracks leading from the paved road into the retention pond.
That's when a dive team was deployed.
After a 45-minute search Ariel's vehicle was found and her body was recovered from the vehicle.
