H-Town Cares brings faith, government together for flood relief

- Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, with the support of several pastors, ministers, business leaders and community leaders, is introducing the H-Town Cares Flood Recovery Campaign. During a news conference on Monday evening at The Community of Faith church on Pinemont Drive near Ella Boulevard, Mayor Turner presented a plan of action for the citywide collaborative initiative to help residents affected by the Tax Day 2016 floods.

HEB is contributing to the effort by encouraging shoppers to purchase 'care bags' as part of the company's scheduled  'Flood of Love Shopping' weekend (from April 29 until May 1, 2016. The bags will be donated to families in need.

"Even when the weather forecast changes and the rain and flooding stops, the storm will still be raging for many Houstonians unless we act with deliberate speed and compassion," said Bishop James Dixon. "We have a critical dilemma in our community that must be addressed and thus, the need for 'H-Town Cares!' We have a responsibility to help our brothers and sisters who find themselves homeless and without resources."
