HOUSTON (FOX 26) - About four dozen protesters converged on a Houston area nursing home this afternoon demanding the release of a senior citizen.
They're protesting that 87-year-old Doris Davis, who is at La Hacienda Rehabilitation Center, was placed in the Adult Protective Services system back in 2014.
This is after Harris County records show she called her doctor about a headache and it turned out to be a stroke.
She was taken into the guardianship program after the courts found she was unfit to live in her southeast home because she was diagnosed with dementia and lacked family support.
A letter submitted by another niece says the guardianship program is the best place for the senior because her home was in disrepair and she was being taken advantage of by a relative.
But protesters bulk at that claim saying the senior should be at home anyway.
The county has ordered another medical evaluation of Doris Davis and there is a hearing on that issue next week.
