CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (FOX 26) - Spring break ends tragically for four Houston teens after three of them were killed in a vehicle accident. Among the deceased are a standout Bellaire High School volleyball player and her sister. 17-year-old Jade Robinson was a senior at Bellaire High School. Her 19-year-old sister Brianna is a Bellaire graduate. 18-year-old Brittanie Johnson was also once a student at Bellaire.
All three females died in a car crash near Corpus Christi. The fourth female, Shelby Coleman, is a senior at Lamar High School. She was critically injured and remains in the intensive care unit of a Corpus Christi hospital.
How do you even begin to go on after losing two daughters at one time?
“I don't know," says Bettye Greene while crying. She is the grandmother of Jade and Brianna. "I truly don't know.”
Loved ones of the teens received the worst news of their lives on Sunday afternoon. The two sisters and two friends were returning from a spring break trip to South Padre Island when the deadly crash took place.
The driver, 18-year-old Coleman, was distracted by glancing at her cell phone which she was using as a GPS to get directions back to Houston, according to the Texas Highway Patrol Division. The car drifted into the center median.
Investigators say Coleman overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to spin across the highway into oncoming traffic, right into the path of an 18-wheeler truck.
“It's a pain I never felt before, nowhere close,” explains Toren Robinson, the father Brianna and Jade.
“I know time is a healer," adds Greene. "I just wish I could rush it cause I truly don't know what we're going to do.”
Jade was scheduled to attend Tennessee Wesleyan College on a volleyball scholarship. The girls' father says he hopes his words will comfort those in pain.
“They were loving young ladies," says Robinson. "I would hope they would continue to live through someone else. They brought joy to my life. I want them to continue to bring joy to others.”
The girls' grandmother says she finds comfort knowing they spent their last days on a wonderful vacation: ”They're together. They were never really separate. I know wherever Brianna is, Jade has her arms around her and vice versa.”
