Houston Police are investigating after a 1-year old was shot in the Meyerland area around 5:30pm Monday evening.

It happened on Mullens near Carew behind the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Police say a mother was driving through the neighborhood when she heard gunshots. As her child screamed in the back, she rushed the few blocks to her home on Jackwood. When she arrived, she realized her vehicle had been struck; a bullet had gone through her back door and hit her child in the leg.

The child was rushed to the hospital and is reported in stable condition.

Police have interviewed the mother and several witnesses, but as of Monday night were still trying to track down the identity of the gunman.

Police did not yet have any information as to whether the mother and child were directly targeted. A white truck parked on Mullen was also struck by bullets and was being investigated.

Neighbors in the Meyerland area with home security cameras near Mullen and Carew are asked to review footage from Monday around 5:30 PM. Any suspicious findings can be reported to police. They also encourage anyone who heard or saw the incident to give them a call.
