HOUSTON (FOX 26) - One person is dead following a fatal crash on I-10 East after three big trucks wrecked in a fiery crash.
It happened around 1:30 p.m. on I-10 between Dell Dale Road and Beltway 8. Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators are still trying to figure out how an 18 wheeler and two other heavy trucks crashed, causing the fatal wreck.
Rosa Martinez immediately called 911 after the trucks hit.
"All of a sudden I just heard a boom. I turned and the fire started and it was just constantly one after another. All you could hear was boom, boom, a lot of flames in the air," explains Martinez.
"There was a multitude of explosions. We all looked out the window and there was thick dark black smoke," says Pete Dever who works nearby.
The wreck left one person dead and the highway shut down for hours. "Very heartbreaking. Just the thought of someone burning inside a vehicle it just broke my heart," adds Martinez.
Hazmat had to be called in to clean up the fuel from the freeway and TX-DOT will have to thoroughly inspect the highway to ensure the road is still structurally sound.
