'Lucky' Rosenberg store busy with Mega Millions fever

For some people in the Houston area, the right place to buy a Mega Millions ticket is Rudy's Stop and Shop in Rosenberg.

"Ever since they’ve been selling Lotto tickets, I’ve been coming here," said Allen Dolnik with $100 worth of Mega Millions tickets. "It’s a lucky place."

Friday's jackpot prize soared to $521 million dollars. Rudy's Stop and Shop has earned a reputation for being a "lucky" store. It boasts having many lottery winners whose photos or winning tickets adorn the walls of the business including a winning $1 million scratch-off ticket.

Some people traveled more than an hour to get to the tiny store covered in lottery posters on Damon Street. Some of them even traveled from as far as Baytown and Tomball. The store staff expected to see more than 5,000 customers.

"I heard here there’s a lot of winners here and I’ve been coming to this store and I’ve been winning a little bit, you know, like $300, $500," said Jessie Martinez.

"I live in Cinco Ranch, so I actually come out here and play only when it hits 500 [million]," said Kim White. "I think that’s enough for me."

If there are no winners on Friday, the Mega Millions jackpot prize for Tuesday is expected to jump sharply to $612 million.
