HOUSTON (FOX 26) - If you're like most people who celebrate Christmas, the time to put up decorations is almost here. For anyone who doesn't have the supplies that they need, there's no time to waste.
Big-box suppliers, like The Home Depot, have shelves stocked with popular items like lights, trees and inflatable figures. The Thanksgiving weekend is a popular time for families to decorate, so demand is expected to pick up in the coming days.
A LendEDU accounting of American holiday expenses finds decorations are the second-largest line item, at almost $90 per home.
Store associates say it is common to see some shoppers agonize over some of their choices.
"Some people might come with an idea to do one thing and at the end of the day, because of the multiple choices we have: they decide to do a different thing," says Fortune Judex from The Home Depot.
Another option is to have a 'professional' hang the lights with the promise of no climbing ladders and a quality appearance, but it all comes at a cost. A Homeadvisor.com survey found the average price for professional lighting at $617.
