Kingwood man organizes donation drive for flood victims

Hundreds of families left devastated by the flood are being helped by one man on a mission. He's working to make things easier for flood victims in their time of need.

Richard Abram, a 20-year Kingwood resident, collected and given away more than nine truckloads of supplies since Saturday for people devastated by Imelda flooding.

"These are my neighbors," Abram said. "These are the same people I see at HEB, at the gas station and it's hard to sit back and watch other's lives be destroyed."

After Hurricane Harvey, Abram joined the Facebook group "Flooding Kingwood with Kindness".

Abram's home was left underwater by Imelda, but that's not stopping him from organizing a donation drive so large he had to move it from his driveway to the Elm Grove Community Center.

"It does my heart good to see people that would not have spoken to each other on the street. Now we're crying in each other's arms," Abram said.

In addition to cleaning supplies, gift cards, water and clothing, Abram has scheduled hot meals to be cooked for families in need.
