Police say a father was shot and killed in front of his wife and infant in north Houston.

The victim is a Hispanic man in his twenties. They say at the time of the double homicide, the victim's 2-year-old girl was in the car.

Police say the man pulled up with his family in front of La Michocana store on the 200-block of Aldine Bender Road.  But before they could get out of the car, they say an attempted robber jumped in.

"The victim did not want to give up any of his belongings. They exchanged gun fire inside the car. The male (suspect) exited the car and collapsed in the middle of the parking lot," Detective Christopher Elder said.

This all happened around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Police aren't identifying either the victim or suspect.

"I think it's very unfortunate someone would take someone's life in front of their children on a Sunday which is mostly family time for people," Nelson La Fleur said.

Those who live in the neighborhood say unfortunately the area is becoming more dangerous.

"It happens a lot. It's a bad area we've been over here for 15 years and it's getting worse. More people are carrying guns. It's ashame," Tammy Elliott said.
