Safety of injectable facial wrinkle fillers

- Many plastic surgeons and dermatologists offer injectable dermal fillers to plump thin lips and soften wrinkles, but what are the unwanted consequences? Plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Schusterman answers that questions for FOX 26 News. He feels that they are safe, as long as patients find a qualified doctor.

"That's the great thing about facial fillers is they're temporary, and if you have a problem with them, or if you don't like it, you can have them removed or they'll resolve on their own and there's no lasting long-term effects," explains Dr. Schusterman. "If you're not using a temporary filler, a permanent filler, you might see some dips or rippling, but with dissolvable fillers, you shouldn't see anything like that long-term. I think most of them are very safe, but they are reversible if there's a problem."

Dr. Schusterman says the wrinkle fillers often give patients a more youthful look at a more affordable price than a facelift. Most of these filler procedures take less than 30 minutes and the results last anywhere between four months to a year. He also says it's always important to find a surgeon with experience and make sure you see before and after photos of their patients.
