First pediatric flu death reported in City of Houston

HOUSTON (FOX 26) — The Houston Health Department has confirmed the first pediatric flu death of the season in the city. The child, who was between the ages of five and 17, had a pre-existing medical condition and suffered multiple organ failures.

The girl was in the hospital for much of February and passed away last week.

Two pediatric flu deaths were reported in the City of Houston during the previous season. The Houston Health Department says that two percent of people in emergency rooms during this season are as a result of flu-like illnesses, which is approximately 2,300 each week.
