While hiking, a man came across a horrifying discovery. Two puppies were trapped in an aquarium. What makes it worse, the lid was cemented shut.

“As I got closer, I saw these eyes peering out at me and they looked like they needed help. That’s when I called authorities,” Matt Williamson told local news reports.

Williamson said the puppies were left there to drown.

The puppies were rescued by the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, and taken in for evaluation.

They were running a slight fever, and had high stress levels when found, but were in good health otherwise.

The puppies are currently recovering, and will be put up for adoption pending a full veterinary evaluation.
