HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Texas State Representative Jim Murphy (HD-133) will host the 2016 West Houston Teen Leadership Summit on Saturday, Feb. 20. The event will bring local high school sophomores and juniors together at the Norris Conference Centers in CityCentre. The goal of the summit is to help develop the leadership skills of high school students by connecting them with Houston-area executives, politicians, and community leaders.
"These student delegates will benefit from the speakers' experience and insights, and will be better prepared to become our next generation of leaders," says Rep. Murphy.
All West Houston high schools have been invited to select their delegates to attend the event. At-large positions are also available to help fill the appropriated 200 delegate positions. The summit is free of charge to the attendees.
Summit panelists will include former Mayor of Houston Bill White, University of Houston president Dr. Renu Khator, former Texas Secretary of State George Strake, former news anchor Linda Lorelle and former U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Chase Untermeyer. FOX 26 News anchor Melissa Wilson will serve as a member of the event Breakfast Host Committee.
Houston businesses scheduled to be represented at the summit include ConocoPhillips, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and the Houston West Chamber of Commerce.
