Katy non-profit works to heal with miniature horse therapy

HOUSTON (FOX26) - This weeks Feel Good Friday is putting the spotlight on the nonprofit Halter Inc. in Katy. Maria Pigozzi founded the organization after learning her daughter was born with congenital heart disease. Through miniature horse therapy Maria says kids with autism or other forms of disability are able to get away and connect with the majestic animals on her property. In fact, Maria says there is scientific proof, the rocking motion from riding a horse can release a hormone called oxytocin which in turn lowers cortisol levels in the body causing you to feel good. Aside from all the obstacle courses and horse riding through the property also hosts one of the largest pumpkin patches in our area. It's also the biggest fundraiser for the organization. Maria says all the money goes directly towards feed for the animals and keeping up with maintenance so that children all across the area can continue to benefit for her 14-year-old non-profit organization.
