Hot cardamom European sipping chocolate

- Cardamom Spiced European Hot Chocolate

  • 3oz 64% Manjari chocolate

  • 4oz whole milk

  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground cardamom seeds

  • 1/4 tsp Saigon cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp star anise

  • 1/4 tsp ginger

  • 1/4 tsp Ceylon cloves

  • 1/4 vanilla bean

  • Optional: 1 tablespoon of honey


  1. Heat the milk with all the spices in a medium sized saucepan.
  2. Bring the milk to a boil and then turn off the stove, cover the pot, and allow to steep for 10-to-15 minutes.
  3. Strain the spices out and begin heating the milk again. When the milk is warm, whisk in the chocolate, stirring until melted and steaming hot.
  4. Taste and add honey if desired.

Serve the hot chocolate warm in a small demitasse cup.

Optional: top with your favorite marshmallows or homemade whipped cream.
