GALVESTON, Texas (FOX 26) - The 108th celebration Mardi Gras! Galveston kicks off on February 22.
"It's the largest Mardi Gras in Texas, and you know it's the third largest in the country. So behind New Orleans, of course, and Mobile, Alabama, there's Galveston Mardi Gras," says Mary Beth Bassett with the Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Only on FOX, we got a first look at the poster for 2019.
Alicia Neal created the winning poster. She said it was her first year entering. She was on Houston's Morning Show to talk about how it came to be.
"I wanted something that really embodied Galveston, and so you'll definitely see why it is what it is," Neal says. "I wanted something that came from the sea and so I thought it was important that I actually also used Pleasure Pier."
Neal says that it was important that the poster captured the excitement, colors, and everything else that goes into Mardi Gras.
Mardi Gras! Galveston events run from February 22 to March 5. Mary Beth Bassett says the Island expects to see 350,000 to 400,000 people on the island over the course of the events.
