Doctors push for blame of surprise bills to be put on insurance companies

A group of doctors are trying to block the state of Texas from implementing a law that would end a surprise bill from the emergency room. They say the blame for the soaring costs needs to be put on the health insurance companies.

The bill would prevent doctors from billing patients for any portion of a charge that insurance doesn't pay. The Texas Medical Association says insurers are at fault for not allowing doctors into networks.

Governor Greg Abbott says a resolution will be found this legislative session.
