5-year-old Katy chess prodigy competes in national competition

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Ryan Mecham is a 5-year-old chess prodigy from Katy.

He placed 12th out of 62 kindergartners in the national chess tournament in Florida.

Last year, Ryan took the title at the Texas kindergarten state championships.

Ryan and his mom Mary stopped by Houston's Morning Show and spoke with Anchor Jose Grinan about how he started playing chess at such a young age.
