Boiled peanuts at Bacon Bros. Public House

- "Because it's weird!" That is the response from Joseph Zerwas, executive chef and partner at Bacon Bros. Public House when asked by FOX 26 News contributor Cleverley Stone why the restaurant serves boiled peanuts.

To be fair, Bacon Bros. Public House, which opened in downtown Sugar Land in March 2017, is an expanded restaurant concept from Greenville, South Carolina, where boiled peanuts are plentiful. Chef Zerwas says boiled peanuts are also popular in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Differentiating the flavor from its sister restaurant in S.C., Zerwas uses traditional Texas favorite Lone Star Beer in the pork stock in which the Texas-farmed peanuts are boiled for twelve hours. The stock also includes apple cider vinegar, Worchestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, crushed red pepper flakes, crushed garlic, bay leaves and fresh jalapenos.

Bacon Bros. Public House general manager and partner Travis Cook describes the experience of consuming boiled peanuts as "redneck edamame."
