13 Year Old Boy With Dreams of Going To College Wants Family To Adopt Him

Across Texas there has been a more than eight percent increase in the number of reported child abuse cases.  Demetrious, 13, has dreams of going to college at the University of Houston.

"He's unfortunately growing up in the foster care system.  He has been in multiple placements, and a lot of them have been in congregate care settings involving a lot of children," said Atasha Kelley-Harris, Depelchin Children's Center.

April is child abuse prevention month.  Depelchin Children's Center wants people to stand up for children who don't have a voice.  Vounteers are tying 6,551 ribbons outside, one for each reported victim of child abuse in Harris County.  Demetrious's physical wounds have healed, but the emotional ones are far worse.

Demetrious likes basketball and is polite.  He wants families to know he's available to be adopted right now.  Parents who adopt older children get free in state college tuition, health care and ongoing counseling services.  To adopt, email info@depelchin.org.
