'The X-Files' returns to FOX 26 in summer 2015

NEW YORK - More than two decades after "The X-Files" debuted and 13 years after its final season, agents Mulder and Scully will return to the FOX television network.

Fox Television Group confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday that the network will air six new episodes of the science-fiction show during the summer. Actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," said show creator Chris Carter. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."

"The X-Files" premiered on FOX in September 1993 and lasted nine seasons. Fox wasn't releasing further details about the revived show.
