"I never would imagine in a million years I'd perform alongside Beyoncé," says drummer Larry Allen.
As Beyoncé dropped her live album and Netflix documentary, Allen woke up to hundreds of text messages.
Allen, a former Prairie View A&M University drum major, was not just featured several times in the "Homecoming" documentary, he served as the drumline captain for Beyoncé's 2018 performance at the Coachella festival in California. He was in charge of blocking and choreography for more than 25 drummers.
"We got to showcase our playing ability as well as dancing," adds Allen during an interview with FOX 26 News.
Allen was hired through a contact on Beyoncé's team.
"Homecoming" follows Beyoncé' and the performers through a month of rehearsals leading up to the big moment at Coachella.
"You can't even describe it," explains Allen. "I mean, Beyoncé's Beyoncé. Her energy alone just makes you go hard."
Allen says Beyoncé was a pleasure to work with and that he is proud of the documentary film bringing attention to historically black colleges and universities.
