Garth Brooks to open, close RodeoHouston 2018

- The country star you grew up on is coming back to Houston!

Officials with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announced that Garth Brooks will be opening and closing their 2018 show, which he said he only found out moments before he came onstage.

"What a great plan, it's cool. It puts a lot of pressure on you, I mean, naturally that one show should outdo the other -- which one's going to outdo the other? It's gonna be a lot of fun," said Garth Brooks.

Garth, being the class act that he is, took selfies with fan after fan after fan. And he did so with heavy police presence around him.

“We are thrilled to welcome Garth Brooks back to the RodeoHouston stage,” said Jack A. Lyons, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo chairman of the board. “This is the first time in multi-entertainer Show history that one artist has opened and closed RodeoHouston, and we could not think of a more engaging performer to take on this epic presentation."

The 2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is scheduled to begin on Feb. 27 and end on March 18, with Brooks featured on both nights.

This lineup announcement comes on the heels of reports that shots were fired on Wednesday night.

While no weapon was found, police did say they discovered evidence.

"When we did our sweep with the ride operators to look for a possbile firearm, that's when we found a 9mm casing," said Captain Dwayne Ready of HPD.

17-year-old Raymond Colbert was taken in for evading arrest.

Just one day after people here say they were more aware of their surroundings but still felt safe.

Especially since they could see police officers stationed in every area.

Authorities have said they are adding security as needed, which includes extra officers and more lighting in certain areas.
