End of a Halloween era in Houston

- Would you like to wear a big black top hat with rabbit ears? Or perhaps you'd prefer to walk like an Egyptian or say, "Hail Caesar!" What about becoming which kind of witch you wish?

“It’s actually a Medusa costume," said Marie De Dalenduvela. "We’re kind of collaborating together to create our own witch’s costume."

“We’re selling fantasies and apparently very pleasant memories,’ said Terri Frankel, co-owner of Frankel's Costume Co.

You can find elaborate costumes there. You can even be every character from your favorite musical or "Star Wars" movie.

If this 40,000 square foot warehouse with more than 57,000 costumes sounds like something that’s right up your alley, get there soon because Frankel's Costume Co. will soon be just a memory.

“It’s a sad thing to see this legacy of Houston is actually closing down,” said De Dalenduvela.

The store has been at the Polk Street location for 17 years. The family owners watched as other warehouses that once littered the east end of downtown Houston have been transformed into trendy condominiums and lofts.

What made the family decide to close the business?

“It’s just time,” said Frankel. “I’m 72 years old my husband is 76 and our sons have other careers that are taking place, so it’s just time.”
